Istanbul... Part I

Hello my lovelies!

Hope you are looking forward to a weekend of fun and relaxation! Remember I told you a couple weeks ago I would be going on a trip with my boyfriend? Well it's been almost a week since I got back, and I am missing the places I visited so much!

Did you guess where I went?? Well, the title of this post pretty much gives it away - I went to Istanbul! I also visited other cities within Turkey, but I will have to wait to share everything about my experiences and share more photos in a later post.

For now, here is a picture I took on my iPhone of the view from our hotel room, overlooking the incredible view of the Bosphorus.

Crazy Busy!

In preparation for my upcoming trip (which is only 2 days away!!!! :)))) yippee!), I have been running around like a madwoman, going shopping, packing, preparing myself, and trying to wrap up some work projects. I always seem to have a problem with packing too many things for my trip and ending up not wearing half of it. I'm trying to be realistic and edit out as much as possible, but there are still so many things I want to take!!!! Especially since this trip will include a weekend away at the sea, sightseeing, as well as nights out in the city. That's a lot to pack for! :)

It's going to be a crazy couple of days, but once I'm at the airport... it will all melt away. :)

I can't wait for it to be Wednesday.

Writing Every Day

Seth Godin says that everyone should write in public and to do it every day. Every single day.

While I have come no where near this admirable goal, I need to start committing to writing a post every day, even if it's just brief thoughts here and there about life, about my day, or about my dreams. It may even be one sentence or one phrase or a few words.

So I'm going to try to write every day, as long as I have accessible internet. And when I don't have accessible internet I will try to write on a notepad or something and then post it later. So my goal is to write every day for one year (until September 23, 2012), chronicle my life, express my emotions and opinions, and add nice pictures when words don't do justice. No one ever died of trying. :)

Thailand!!!

Here are some photos from my recent trip with my boyfriend to Phuket, Thailand and Koh Phi Phi. Such a beautiful and romantic place! It was paradise. I think we were the only couple that wasn't on their honeymoon!

In Phuket, we enjoyed our hotel, the Amari Coral Beach Phuket. We had an amazing dinner at White Box Restaurant in Phuket, where the service, the food, and the ambiance are amazing! We then took a boat to Koh Phi Phi. We stayed at the wonderful Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort on Koh Phi Phi, which was absolutely impeccable in terms of service and atmosphere. Super quiet, private, and romantic. This is definitely a place you want to go with your significant other.We spent our last night back in Phuket at the Twinpalms Phuket Resort.

We got to venture out to the islands, such as Phi Phi Ley, we saw Maya Beach (where the movie, "The Beach", was filmed), we saw Monkey Beach, went snorkeling in the various bays, and just had a wonderful time.

My boyfriend and I had a serious case of the post-vacation blues after we got home from this trip. It was truly a trip that I will never forget.

Hello my lovely readers!

Sorry for the extended absence, but life got a little hectic for a bit there. Now I'm back... with big news! My boyfriend is taking me to paradise (Phuket, Thailand) for a week!!

I'll be leaving on Friday and will take lots of pictures of the beautiful beaches there to share with you.

If you remember back in January, I made a wish list for 2011 and one of the things on my list was to travel to Thailand, which also made my travel wish list. My boyfriend didn't even know this, but he made my wish come true!

For now, I'm daydreaming, making packing lists, researching things to do in Phuket and Koh Phi Phi, working out (I need to get fit if I'm going to be running around in a bikini for a week!), and counting down the days until my departure!! I am so excited. I can't wait to go! And I can't wait to tell you all about it after.

Buddakan

A few weeks ago, while I was visiting Philadelphia, I had dinner at Buddakan and I wanted to tell you about this amazing restaurant. Not only is the menu full of delicious foods (it's filled with tons of Asian fusion options), but the ambience of the restaurant is also incredible.

When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by a gigantic statue of Buddha, and were led upstairs to our table by our gracious hostess, where all the seats had images of people's faces on them. The decor is very sexy chic and the service was great. I highly recommend it if you're ever in Philadelphia or New York!

My Goals for 2011

Happy new year, my lovelies!! I hope you enjoyed the holidays surrounded by family, friends, and the people (and pets) you love! :)

Did you make any new year's resolutions? To be honest, I used to make resolutions, but I would never really stick to them. Instead, I now make a list of goals for the new year, and then I will often look back at the end of the year to see how many of those goals I was able to achieve. So far, I have been able to achieve those goals for the most part until now, so I will continue this little tradition of mine and show you my goals for this fabulous new year!

My goals for 2011 are:

Visit Italy, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, and Thailand.
Launch career version 2.0 either by obtaining a new job, or by attending graduate school.
Get at least a 650 on the GMAT.
Be admitted to my top two graduate school choices in France and Italy with a scholarship and move to Europe by the end of the year.
Buy a new digital SLR camera - Nikon D3100 or Canon EOS and learn photography.
Update my blog more often - goal is 5 posts a week.
Take French classes.
Do yoga more regularly.
Re-read Walden by Thoreau, read all of the David Sedaris books, read How Proust Can Change Your Life.
Volunteer with non-profit organizations.
Dress more creatively and find my personal style.

So there you have it. Those are my goals for 2011, and now that they are out there for the world to see, I hope that I hold myself accountable to these goals and really try to achieve as many as I can! I may add to or edit these goals during the year, so keep checking back for my progress!

How to Look Stylish and Professional for a Job Interview

Hi darlings!

I have a job interview today (woot woot!), so while I was getting everything ready yesterday and looking at different photos for inspiration for my outfit, I thought I could share some of what I found with you and give you some tips on how to look stylish and professional for a job interview.

Since my job is not in the creative industry, I can't really pull off wearing over the top accessories, nail polish or shoes. I have to look confident, polished and very professional. Since I also look younger than I am, I like to make sure my outfit reflects my level of maturity without making me look like an old lady.

Here are some tips on how to look stylish and professional for a job interview:

1) Pay attention to the basics - make sure you have showered, and that your hair and nails are clean and well groomed, but stay away from wearing perfume, as some interviewers may find it distracting. Keep the makeup light.

2) Wear a nice suit in black, grey or navy blue, because it's simple and sleek. I love my black Banana Republic suit, which fits me nicely.

3) Wear solid pumps with heels that are no higher than 3 inches. I'll wear my black Ferragamo patent leather pumps.

These Ferragamo pumps are similar to mine and would also look great with your interview outfit:

4) Since your suit and shoes are sleek and simple, you can add a little color to your outfit with your blouse. I decided to wear a neutral tomorrow, and I will wear my Mango silk crepe shirt.

5) Carry a professional looking bag that is big enough to fit everything you will need to take with you to the interview. I will take my leather Furla bag, in which I can place extra copies of my resume, pens, a notepad, my phone (which will be turned off right before the interview!) my makeup (for any emergency touch ups needed right before the interview), wallet, and my keys. Make sure everything is well organized so you can access it easily if you need to during the interview.

If I get the job, I would love to upgrade my bag to the Fendi 'Peekaboo' Satchel:

6) A simple pearl necklace looks very classic, mature, and professional, while making your outfit look stylish. It is a timeless addition to your everyday outfits as well.

In short, the first impression you make on the interviewer is very important, and the clothes you wear should not distract the interviewer in any way. You want the interviewer to be paying attention to what you are saying, not your nail polish or your perfume. You should wear clothes that enhance the professional look you're going for, and paying attention to little details shows the interviewer that you want the job and that you are capable of doing it well.

Be well-prepared, look professional, stay calm and confident, and you will do great in any job interview!

I've been searching for unique artwork to put up on my walls. I love finding little treasures like these whimsical black and white prints by Finnish artist Mirka Johansson. I'm going to look into ordering some of these prints for myself. What I love about these prints in particular is that they are both modern and vintage looking at the same time.

Going to Ladurée is a must when visiting Paris. They have been selling luxury cakes and pastries since 1862, and they are known for having the best macaroons (or macarons in French) in the world.

A French couple built and settled into their home in Siem Reap, Cambodia after four years of traveling around the world. Clearly their four year trip was uninspiring.

Haleigh from Bardot in Blue uses a Canon 450D

Anh from 9 to 5 Chic uses a Nikon 90D.

Do you have any recommendations for Digital SLR cameras for beginners? I will most likely choose one of the ones I listed above and I will let you know which one I end up deciding on.

I can't wait to buy a new camera, so I can share my photos with you!

I am probably one of the most un-domestic women in the world. I can cook about three things (although I enjoy cooking and am trying to learn new recipes), hate cleaning (but love a clean house), and typically don't spend a lot of time at home.

That's started to change for me recently, and the biggest indication of this is my newfound interest in interior design and decorating! I find that just the way that your wardrobe and style can reflect your personality and the way you feel that day, your home is also a reflection of you and the way you live your life.

Once I get a new place, I will use the images above as inspiration for colors and decor. I love the energy, romance, and the modernity of each of these images, as well as the little details that make them pop.

I Love the Sound of Raindrops

I love the soothing sound of raindrops. I always have. I always will. The sound is incredibly relaxing. When I hear it, it's as though nothing can go wrong in the world, especially when you are inside, warm and cozy, and you are watching the rain fall from your window. There is something about rainy weather that makes me a little introspective. It's the kind of weather that forces me to slow down a little, enjoy my hot tea, and feel happy about the little things in my life. There's a sense that everything is being washed clean, and will be renewed once again when the rain is over.

What about you? Do you enjoy the rain as much as I do?

The weather in LA is a bit gloomy, but it suits my mood right now. It's making me very nostalgic for San Francisco. I recently quit my job, which I was very unhappy with, and moved back home to LA until I can find a new job.

I've only been in LA for a week now, but I miss so many things about San Francisco, the city I called home for the last 5 years.

Here is a list of the things I miss most about SF:

blue bottle coffee.
the hills.
the fog.
the excitement of a warm sunny day.
dolores park.
la boulange (and the guy that sneaked in free pastries for me every time).
the restaurants.
the view of the golden gate bridge.
the smallness of the city.
crissy fields.
the ferry building.
the enthusiasm people have for events like bay to breakers, music festivals, etc.
the food.
the sense of community.
golden gate park.
the creativity of people.
union square.
the friendliness of people.
the many amazing foodie places in the mission.
being able to get anywhere in the city in at most 20 minutes.
cute boutiques in hayes valley.
being able to walk everywhere.
napa and sonoma.
my friends.
